Learn about and discuss books, authors and their influences on different fiction genres. Discover older, overlooked or forgotten authors whose works inspired (and often surpass) the bestsellers of today. Explore the nooks and crannies of my 10,000-volume personal library, including many rare titles and editions across a wide range of genres.

I’m a longtime book enthusiast and dedicated collector, and I have a YouTube channel where I enjoy making videos about authors, influential publishers and genre history. Alas, my video production process is slow, and YouTube’s algorithm isn’t kind when I venture outside the fantasy and science fiction genres. Here on Substack, I can fill some of the gaps in my channel’s coverage, allowing me to discuss a wider range of authors, genres and other topics with greater regularity.

My goal is to upload new content every week and to build a community of readers committed to the preservation in popular culture of literary history that’s at risk of being forgotten.

Why subscribe?

Here I cover smaller, niche topics and workshop larger ones with your input before committing them to my video production queue. Subscribe to gain early access to videos as well as exclusive content such as essays, interviews, podcasts and opportunities for in-depth community discussions, some livestreamed. Featured genres include children’s books, mystery/crime, horror, historical fiction, literary fiction, as well as fantasy and science fiction.

Subscribers also gain full access to my publication archives.

Come explore my library with me, where I hope you’ll discover books that capture your imagination or spark a desire to read something a little different than your usual fare.
